Introduction

We support organisations of all sizes, from community groups to national charities, to develop effective approaches to building relationships and growing income from Trusts and Foundations. In addition to two decades of experience, Laura holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Charity Fundraising and a Postgraduate Diploma in Voluntary Sector Management from the Centre for Charity Effectiveness.

Trusts and Foundations

With 20 years of experience in winning grants, we’ve supported over 70 organisations to raise funds from over 100 different funders, including The National Lottery Community Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation, NHS, UK Government and many more. We can provide a wide range of support, from prospect research and pipeline development, bid writing, bid reviews, stewarding, data management and impact support. We also provide in-house training and mentoring for early career fundraisers, Trusts and Foundations strategy and interim leadership support. We bring particular expertise in winning funding for volunteer programmes.

Involving Trustees and Volunteers in Fundraising

We bring decades of expertise in volunteer involvement in all areas of fundraising, bringing insights into attracting, recruiting and retaining volunteers in fundraising roles. We provide organisations with support to recruit and train trustees in strategic fundraising skills for success. Recent projects have included supporting several charities to recruit board members with fundraising expertise and a strategic review of volunteer involvement in community fundraising for a national cancer charity. As a well-known consultant in volunteer involvement, Laura has supported more than 20 organisations to develop innovative volunteering strategies which align with fundraising goals. She also delivers the Volunteer Strategy Masterclass for the Association of Volunteer Managers.

Case Study

Walking With The Wounded
Laura supported Walking With The Wounded as interim Trusts and Foundations lead for 18 months from 2020 to 2021, returning in 2023 to provide a feasibility study into funding options for a volunteering programme at this impactful national veterans charity. Laura modernised the charity's approach to fundraising from grants, implementing a CRM to manage funder information and relationships. She also supported the development of a new team to manage the income stream long term. She provided a range of bespoke in-house training on fundraising to help develop more internal collaboration and build skills in early career fundraisers and programme delivery managers.

The Social Mobility Foundation
Laura provided this fantastic national youth charity with strategic Trusts and Foundations support for a year from 2023 to 2024. This involved providing interim leadership of the income stream, training and supporting a team of early career fundraising to carry out delivery long term. Laura provided detailed prospect research, developed and managed a detailed pipeline and led the process of migrating all Trusts and Foundations relationship management data to a new CRM. During this time secured £400,000, building relationships with new funders and stewarding existing ones.

Burmantofts Community Friends
Over 18 months Laura supported this vital local older peoples' charity in Leeds to take a strategic approach to bid writing and successfully grow income by 50%. This included supporting them to win a six figure multi year grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to introduce a much needed volunteering programme and community cohesion projects. She also delivered a successful campaign to raise funds from a variety of sources to purchase the charity's first ever wheelchair accessible vehicle, enabling older people excluded from local services who are seriously isolated to live independently and make friends.
